There really are only 2 ways to make money online. Either you are going to invest money in advertising your business Or you are going to work all the different free marketing methods available to you.
Personally I have always favored spending money, rather than spending the extra time, however I do know what it is like to try and make money online without having a marketing budget to work with.
When I first got started in all this online marketing stuff times where different. You could easily get quality back links just by visiting other blogs. You could use Google Ad Words and just direct link your affiliate link.
A lot sure has changed in 8 years. Today you have a much more difficult time getting the one thing we all need to make money on the internet. That is web traffic. I have been talking about web traffic since around 2005.
It still is the most important variable to making money on the internet. With that said I am going to share with you what I think is the most mis understood aspect of blogging. That is creating a responsive community.
A Bigger Blog Community Doesn’t Always Mean More Money
Interestingly you can visit hundreds if not thousands of blogs where people will tell you how important it is to create a strong community, more often than not the advice they will give you doesn’t really help you in any meaningful way.
The reason is because more times than not, a newbie doesn’t fully understand what they have to do in order to create the right kind of influence. First understand that it’s now how well you spell or how good your grammer is that matters when you blog.
What is important is the mannerism in which you say it. To have a powerful blog community one that will propel you to internet riches you need to influence the few who will influence the many.
So the next logical question is how do we influence the few? It’s about creating the right culture. There are 3 types of bloggers. Bloggers that entertain their readers, Bloggers that educate their readers and bloggers that tell stories that trigger their readers emotions.
If you want to create a blog community and culture you need to either Entertain your readers or draw them into your writing emotionally. Notice I didn’t say educate your reader. I use to believe educating your readers was important. While it’s important every now and again to educate your reader, if you want them to keep coming back you want them to like you. You want them to feel like they can identify with you.
Over the years I have had people tell me that my grammer is bad and my spelling is bad. Which is all true! I don’t claim to be a good writer, in fact I dropped at of high school very early. That hasn’t stopped me from making more money than many “educated” people. The people that have negative things to say to me usually are broke. That’s because they spend so much time nit picking over technicalities that they never get to the having fun making money part of life.
Creating A Blogging Community That Is An Asset
So if you read this far into the post I am assuming your interested in what I am telling you. Therefor this next part is really important so pay special attention to it. I don’t get a lot of comments on my blogs because I am not looking to make everyone happy.
What I do get is traffic, lots and lots of traffic from everywhere. From several different sources. Combined I find that people that are interested in me. Did you know you can make more money with a few visitors and less comments than some bloggers who get lots of visitors and more comments.
Unfortunately, many of the bloggers out there who have big followings don’t have many buyers within their followings. Trust me you want more buyers than you do followers. I had a conversation with a very popular blogger not to long ago. She literally gets tons of traffic and tons of comments. The one thing she isn’t getting much of is money. I couldn’t believe it actually.
All that effort building a big blog community and none of them want to buy anything. The reason is because a huge percentage of her followers who like her post, share her post are her competitors and at the end of the day it’s them or her.
So if you wan to make lots of money online from your blog or any other means, you need to be able to make yourself likable. Or you need to spend lots of money on getting traffic to lead capture pages and follow up with your leads with compelling ad copy that convinces them they should buy what you are selling.
I don’t like to convince anyone of anything ever. I prefer to deal with people who already know what they want.
How Do You Attract More Buyers Than Followers? It’s easier than you think. Be real with people and be yourself. While you will here people talk about affiliate marketing and selling other peoples stuff I recommend you follow this guideline.
1. Never sell anything for the sake of making a profit. If you aren’t emotionally attached to what you are selling you won’t be able to get anyone else to be either.
2. Be a buyer yourself, if you are one of those people who have a problem with spending money, you are going to have a hard time attracting other people who like to spend money.
3. It’s so important that you aren’t just selling something for a profit that I need to stress it again.
While I know some folks just blog to blog, chances are you are blogging for a purpose and that purpose is to make money. I know from personal experience that in order to make money with your blog you need to be your true authentic self.
So why listen to me? Currently in life I am not interested in getting anyone to buy anything or join anything. I was very closing to just shutting down this blog because I got tired of the make money online industry. I think there are too many people out there selling bull crap. I think most people will fail at making money online because the hype of making money online is so saturated that people are getting the wrong information.
Eventually me and my partner Jamie will create an affordable product for you to buy that will help you create things like credibility in the marketing place, getting free social traffic, using youtube effectively, creating a buying culture in your market.
Right now isn’t that time and I don’t really know when that time will be. For now though I will keep blogging and share with you what’s on my mind. It is my hope that the stuff I share with you impacts you in a positive way.
So I don’t have a call to action for you. I don’t have a pitch to try and sell you anything. My call to action is love what you do or don’t do it. Till Next Time
P.S. I am not even sure if I stayed on point with this blog post. I am not going back to edit it. This blog post is well over 1000 words and it has only taken me about 20 minutes to write. If I can do it, I know you can too…..
