Blogging For Dummies – What is a blog?

What in the heck is a blog? That seems to be a common question that I hear all the time.  While there are certainly many people who get blogging, still a big majority have no idea what we are doing it or why we are doing it.

A blog is nothing more than a personal journal, a diary if you will.  It wasn’t until recent years that non – computer geek people started to realize how powerful of a tool a blog can be in marketing.  If you are involved in any kind of network marketing business a blog is vital to your success and longevity as a networker online.

Blogging For Dummies – It’s Not Just About Search Engine Rankings

Ultimately we all want free traffic. However when you first get started blogging don’t think about the traffic. I know it goes against the grain of what lots of people teach.  Before worrying about search engines, I think it is  a good idea to get comfortable with the idea of blogging. Let me explain this further.

Your blog is only 1 piece of the picture when it comes to marketing.  Ultimately I am sure you have heard money is in the list.   There are a bunch of ways to build your email marketing list.  Your blog is the bridge between people on that list trusting you vs not trusting you.  With this in mind, you should first write about YOU in your blog. Tell your story , it is through your personal story that you will attract people to your business.

@Larry: I must admit that I have the same problem: finding topics to write about and writing decent quality articles about these topics. I will never be able to write about breast reductions for example, no matter how hard I try :) .

Hi Patel I agree with you sometimes there are some topics you just can’t write about. That is why I am not a big fan of blogging just for the sake of blogging. You should only write about topics you are know a little something about.

Thanks for stopping by and sharing

It’s really both of those things, though. Especially by doing guest blog posts on forums directly related to your vertical, you have an opportunity to showcase your ability to benefit potential customers with your knowledge in a given field and also get your product or brand in front of the people who will be most likely to give you business – and that includes links, which have definite SEO value.

The important thing is that useful visitor-oriented content be the focus of your efforts. If you can’t generate that, all the SEO-friendly copy in the world won’t help.

For me my blog was a diary of sorts, and actually it still is. I don’t particularly worry about traffic as it’s a personal blog with a bit of a sales focus. That said I feel a bit silly blogging passionately about sales and selling skills and then going off on a complete tangent and talking about cars. Maybe I should balance it out with more personal posts and stop trying to make it a sales blog…. Thanks, this article has given me more food for thought.

Hi Roz,

Personally i would create a separate blog for each niche. This way you can focus your keywords better. Thanks for commenting.
