Is Your blog Content Stinky?

What Makes Blog Content Stinky?

Do you ever wonder what it takes to make your content readable? There are a million blogs out there much of the blog content you will find is dull and not at all interesting. But you will find among all the trashy blogs those few blogs that actually entertain and educate in a way that keeps readers coming back for more. For starters if you are just writing for search engines first and people second your blog sucks.

Valuable Original Content

It is always better to write for people, you need to really get inside the readers head and think about what they are thinking about.  This seems very challenging at first, but if you are writing about something you love chances are you are going to connect with someone else. Writing good blog content is about making connections with your readers not search engines.

Don’t get me wrong, seo is a very important element of your writing, but it shouldn’t be the focus of your writing.  A good blog is written 1 post at a time.  Sometimes it takes me 15 minutes to write a post other times it takes me 2 hours. The one thing I do try and do is always make sure the content is helpful to my readers.

Is Original Blog Content Best?

While having 100% original content is ideal, your original content may not be that good. I know it’s hard for people to handle criticism but I had to have a taste of my own medicine. It can be difficult to write good especially when you are trying to stay in the search engines graces.

Coming up with original blog content becomes easier as time goes on.  I highly recommend you spend a lot of time reading other peoples blog to see how they write.  I am a perfect example of a person who is a terrible writer, but that doesn’t stop me from trying. I remember in school dreading writing class because I couldn’t write to save my buttocks. It is sorta ironic that I actually enjoy writing in my blogs.

I really wrote in my first blog back in 2006 , I remember feeling totally overwhelmed with all the information I was trying to process at the time. To make matters worse it seems like the game is changing every month.  Some people will tell you auto-blogging is the way to go, while others will say that you need to write every last word in your blog to be effective.  My vote is just be yourself over time you will find the people that connect with you.

What About Using Other People’s blog content?

There are certainly many different ways to use other peoples blog content. You could use articles in your blog from different article directories. You can visit other peoples blog and pull excepts and give them a backlink back to their site.  The goal of your blog should be to entertain and educate your readers. Basically giving them a reason to come back and visit you again.

The best place I found to get articles to use on your blog is from Ezine Articles. They have a strict quality control on their articles.

The best approach to adding blog content

When I read a blog I don’t usually care where they got that content from.  The best approach is definitely to balance original content with well written content from other sources. Also another great way to get good content is to invite guest bloggers.

Which brings me to this I am looking for people to guest post on my blog. If you are interested contact me

Good content is king and that’s what makes your readers happy. Share boring content, then you’ll lose your readers for good! 🙁

    Thanks for sharing your insights.

    All the best,

Hi Larry, I was really chuffed you stopped by my blog today to leave a comment. I wasn’t sure my blog notifies you if there’s a reply to a comment (it probably doesn’t) so I wanted you to know that I approved it (loooool!!) and left you a reply. 😉

You know I don’t think it matters one jot whether someone writes perfectly or not. Sure we can all improve, the important thing is get the messages across quickly (people have short attention spans) and make a favourable impression. You do that.
