In the current age, every individual is aware about the uses of Facebook and the unlimited advantages it offer to the users. It not only enables the people to utilize the available applications, games and informative pages but also facilitates the people in various different ways. Sharing content, pictures and the day to day activities among friends, family, coworkers and other social circles is now very easy and people can easily share photos, status updates and videos in a safe and secure way.

Importance of privacy cannot be neglected in any of the social networking websites because it is the possibility that a person who shares the content with friends do not want it to become visible to the professional circle. Therefore additional measures are recently adopted by the Facebook administrators for improving the privacy details of its members.

1.      Privacy at Profile Level

There are millions of users on Facebook and if a person do not utilize the privacy measures, then the profile could be accessible for all the available users. Some people want to restrict themselves to those people who are known to them and they are not interested in the undesired friend requests and messages. The new privacy measures incorporate all these aspects and people can simply open the account settings and manage how they appear on Facebook. As a result, their profile will be displayed to a limited number of people. In addition to this, users can also manage who can send messages and control the messages from unknown people.

2.      Privacy at Status Updates

In order to control who can view the status updates, people can simply update their status and by clicking on to the control link, can manage that to whom the status is visible and who are the people for which the status is restricted. As a result, they need not to change the entire privacy settings of their profiles. Instead they can simply change the visibility settings at status updates level.

3.      Privacy at Photos

Protection of photos is very important for the users as there are various cyber crimes related to the sharing of photos. Thus most of the people were concerned about the privacy of photos and hesitate while sharing them on the online social media. Therefore Facebook has improved the existing privacy and presented better solutions for the customers. Now it is easily possible to share the photos privately among the friends and families as they are not visible to the third persons.

4.      Privacy at Tagged Photos

This is one of the newest privacy measures which are recently adopted by Facebook administration. Previously, the photos and the posts in which the user was tagged were visible to all of the friends and networks. But the new privacy details allow the users to control the tags. They can simply remove the tag if the content is not required. In addition to this, they can also manage the settings to control who can view the tagged photos and posts. Thus now every aspect is under the control of user which generates long term satisfaction.

  1. This is one of the most important things that I try to teach my younger relations about Facebook. They have everything so out in the open and it always scares me. I have everything locked down and I deleted my phone number and address off the site. Thanks for bringing this again to my attention!

  2. This is a very important detail for me to consider. Privacy on Facebook has to be secured for us to have at least a feeling of being safe.

  3. Privacy in photo sharing is certainly a huge concern for lot of people. As you never want that someone else use your photo as their profile picture in fake account. This is quite common and you really can’t control it.

  5. I do appreciate that Facebook has incorporated these privacy features in different aspects of the network. We should make use of these features to protect ourselves from intruders and unwanted friends who might have some bad intention. I use these privacy features in different levels and it has served me well.

Thanks for putting the new privacy policy on Facebook in a more personal point of view. One needs to be cautious when posting on Facebook and relying on privacy settings. One needs to remember what happens when someone shares one of your private posts – this is one of the simplest ways of having “private” content shared, AC

  7. This is a very interesting article. I am a heavy user of Facebook and what
I don’t like about tagging before is that anyone can tag you a very irrelevant pictures.
I hope the new privacy measure added to tagging will answer to my complain..

    Thanks for sharing this post!

  8. Great article on how to protect your privacy on the internet. It would be great if it also explained some of the reasons why, such as cyber stalkers, identity thieves, hackers, and online daters.
