If you have done any research online you have probably heard how powerful Article Marketing can be at getting traffic to your promotions.
Experts agree article marketing is by far one of the best sources of free traffic. But the experts also have been lying to you.  I was visiting Ezine Articles the other day doing some keyword research. Ya, I regularly scope out my competition its part of the business. What I found was that a good majority of people are wasting valuable marketing space. If I was a betting man I would say that their up line or “guru†told them to set their profiles up they way that they have. In either case it’s wrong and it’s wrong in a big way.
First, understand that the internet is active 24 hours a day 7 days a week all year round. What that means is you are open for business every day of the year. When you start writing articles to submit to article directories what you are essentially doing is staking your claim online. Think of article marketing as expanding your virtual real estate.
When you write an article each directory allows you to have a resource box, in that box you are given the opportunity to put whatever link inside that resource box you want. This is where it seems like 80% of the people that submit articles get it all wrong. The reason is because they were told to do it that way.
This is an example of a resource box in one of the most popular Article Directories Ezine Articles

The deadliest sin of them all is using that precious space to advertise an affiliate link. Sure you may make some sales, but all you are really doing is helping someone else climb the search engine rankings. In the long run you are shooting your own foot.
The only links you should add to your resource box are links going to your personal website or blog. Article marketing is long term marketing strategy, the more articles you write the more back links and traffic you will get. Don’t waste it on marketing someone else. The best thing to do with your resource box is market you. Make sure to watch this weeks YouTube video on the top right hand side its a good one.

Hey Jason! Good to hear from you.. Skype me up some time.
Hi Larry, finally got here man cool. Is very true linking strategy you spoke about. I started out promoting direct links to vendor sites via Traffic Exchanges 9 months ago (I guess that’s how everyone starts right), and not particularly a fruitful exercise.
Oh yeah great for the vendor I mean they love you to pieces and will bend over backwards to get you more affiliate promo’s to keep selling their website. P.S. I know then thats how my email address gets spread around to JV’s , next thing you know every guru in town has your email address. Not cool!

Hi Richard Thanks for posting..
Your right, I think the biggest newb mistake is just to straight up promote a vendors site, without first getting their personal info into your database…
but like you said in your post I think everyone does that at first including myself..
Hey Larry,
Nice pic for this blog post! I agree … I have not had great luck with JV programs. I like the direct approach and I’m willing to generate my own material, so really no need for a JV partner. Good post and good on ya!
Cheers,
Stephanie

Hey Larry, excellent tip! If I’m not mistaken, EzineArticles don’t allow you to add a opportunity page / sales letter in your resource box anymore.
If you really want to promote your business / product, a good idea is to right a review that you can always refer to that links out to your product or opportunity.
A squidoo lens also does the trick!

You are correct George, According to EzineArticles your article can not be a blatant sales pitch… That goes for all the article directories, squidoo pages you can and also with hub pages I believe.
