Communication has expanded since the days of face-to-face and snail mail. With electronics becoming a part of our daily lives communication is changing. Now the older ways of communication is blended with technology’s new ways to create a whole new perspective on communication. As a business it is important to find the best way to communicate to your employees and customers. Here are some ideas of what to have in your office.
Telephone
Telephones have changed since the rotary dial. Landlines are adding answering machines and caller ID, those phones are turning into switchboards, and switchboards are getting more and more complex. This standard way of communication uses the voice to send and receive messages using one phone number. Landlines can be wired or wireless.
Computers
Business may have desktop computers that sit on the desk. You may have a laptop that is carried everywhere. Both serve the same purpose: communication using written word, video and audio. It has evolved into email, video chats and social networking thanks to the internet. Software like Microsoft Office and OpenOffice are making day-to-day operations easier. The computer’s purpose remains the same even after this evolution.
VoIP
Voice over internet protocol is a way to combine the telephone, computers and peripheral devices together for a seamless result. VoIP for business uses the internet to connect these devices together–with few wires or wirelessly–and to perfectly communicate from one device to the next with ease. Finding the right VoIP provider is very important. Determine price and quality to find the right balance of both.
Mobile Devices
Cell phones, PDAs, tablets and smartphones are called “mobile devices.’ It has only been a few years but the mobile market is growing rapidly. Cell phones are tiny phones on the go. It may send text and photos but not much else. The personal digital assistant, or PDA, is a device that gives users the ability to use many communication methods in the same device. Tablets accomplish the same thing; it’s just bigger. The tablet allows a person to type on the device, make selections with one touch and work on a variety of tasks without switching to a different device. Smartphones are cell phones that do a lot more than talking to another person on the phone. It can get a lot of work done using things called applications. Like the previous two it can access documents from the computer.
Radio
An old school approach to communication is radio. City workers and police officers are examples of people that use radio for communication. The radio transmits a frequency of radio waves for communication. Any distraction can cause the signal to be jammed or static, but it’s still an effective way to communicate.
