Is it just me or have you seen the ever-rising tide of first-time Internet Marketing newbies taking to the path of releasing “courses” as their first IM product?
I’ve been to a few seminars in the past year in London, and have met a tonne of newcomers who have learnt a thing or two about establishing an online business and decided to create their very first Internet Marketing product as a teaching course.
Though I don’t doubt for even a second that some people may learn something invaluable through their initial journey in the home based Internet Marketing business, I somehow feel that they’ve been mislead by the countless number of existing product owners out there who have been coaching them on “becoming an expert in your niche”.
I personally think a lot of the newcomer Internet Marketing crowd have mistaken “becoming an expert in your niche” to mean “becoming yet another ‘expert’ information marketer”.
The bigger picture in the Internet Marketing world does not lie, unfortunately, in re-hashing, re-writing the wheel and re-educating the masses on concepts that are already available publicly in the saturated millions.
Why on earth do aspiring Internet Marketing professionals take to the path of educating others instead of themselves?
It comes across as so strange to me sometimes – What new Internet Marketing guys need to be doing is educating themselves further and establishing niche businesses. After all, more than 90% of “courses” available from the majority of internet marketers speak of traffic generation, affiliate marketing and niche business development, and it is in that context that they try to instil in people the need to become or represent themselves as an expert in their niche markets.
Would you go teach PhD level statistics if all you knew so far in your learning journey was how to calculate the probability of getting a Heads when you flip a fair coin?
No, I doubt you would.
How is teaching others the “art” of Internet Marketing any different when many of these guys have yet to learn so much themselves.
The bigger picture is about establishing “concrete” online businesses, in niche markets where there is high demand but little to no supply. There is practically no point in assuming the role of an educator in a niche where you yourself are far from being an expert – And I’m really sorry, but selling a ghost-written eBook makes no one an expert in any field 😉
If you’re new to the Internet Marketing world, I strongly suggest you take the time to learn how to find potentially untapped niche markets, study one or two that strike your fancy, and then work towards establishing yourself as an expert in one chosen niche if you think that it may prove a profitable experience.

Please don’t waste your time trying to shoot the next 100 training videos about how to create amazing landing pages when there are another 5,000 existing Internet Marketers already doing that.
It doesn’t make you an expert to ride alongside the existing mafia, it does make you an expert to tap and deploy yourself in a niche most others haven’t tapped yet.
Please take this advice seriously – If you do, this realization will shortly but most definitely dawn upon you in the near future.
Become an Internet Marketing expert by becoming an expert in a niche that exhibits a need for experts to service demands.
Don’t assume the role of an expert in niche markets already full of self-proclaimed experts as you’re only wasting your time.
Seriously~

My feelings about this article are a little ambivalent. I both agree and disagree with this article.
When it comes to entering a pool already saturated with people trying the exact same thing, I can understand the advice not to waste your time trying to become one voice of a crowd. On the other hand, Tony Robbins says, “The only way to become wealthy is to add more value to people’s lives than anyone else is adding.”
So while yes, it’s a waste of time to become just another voice like all the rest, it *is* possible to rise above them in their own market and become that expert. Just add more value than anyone else.
Frank Kern said the same thing, and he ended up learning how to make…what was it, $24 million in 24 hours?

Hi Ali,
Yes, all those things you listed are things many of the big marketers like Tony Robbins, Frank Kern, Eben Pagan, Brandon Burchard, etc. have talked about at length.
However, why should they be tings a beginner should avoid? Why not encourage a higher quality and standard from the start? Who are we to be condescending to beginners?
Delena
You seems like you are right.
You cant enter the pool just like that.
