Are Your blog Comments Getting Seen?
I have been blogging for about 5 years, in that time I have seen more crappy blog comments than I care to mention. Getting blog comments on the right blog could mean a ton of traffic for you. It could also help you climb in seo rankings. The problem is though most new blog comments really stink!

The best comments you could get is from other bloggers and if you have a new blog the best way to get other bloggers to visit you is by you visiting them first. I know many of you probably are thinking I tried that and it doesn’t work. If it is not working for you, then the main reason is probably because your blog comments are lacking.

How to submit good Blog Comments
I have talked about this before, but it needs repeating because I still get boatloads of comments that are totally irrelevant and pointless. Therefore I delete them and they never get seen.
- Don’t link to a splash page or lead capture page, they are boring and I don’t want to bore my readers with junk.
- You really should be using gravatar – I like to see peoples faces, there are times when I let spam comments through just because the person used gravatar.
- Make your comment relevant to the post. –>pointless, thoughtless comments will not get seen on real blogs
- Be respectful to the author of the blog
- Make a point
- Use decent grammar – My grammar sucks but I still try and use periods and check my spelling (most times). Make sure you leave a blog comment before leaving.

As always, Larry, you offer great advice and support to your readership. Wonderful links also to a top blogger and helping with the secrets to getting comments to your blog. I too have often wondered how to make my blog more interactive and your tips and tricks are just the business. Having said that I always get an error when I click your links and then have to find the home page. Perhaps you could look at that.
I look forward to hearing more from you about your next steps in the world of internet marketing.
Best wishes Larry…looking forward to hearing more from you
Peter
Hey Peter,
Thanks for the heads up. I will look into that.
You misspelled “grammar” 🙂 Besides that, great tips and I completely agree with leaving a relevant comment.. Anything perceived as spammy or generic gets deleted by almost every decent author.
Hi Aaron, thanks for stopping by and pointing that out :0 I fixed it. I have been trying to get better with that.
Of course, there’s a trick to writing a blog post that elicit comments. Some people have the knack and others have to work at it.
But the thing for readers to remember is that everyone loves comments — even if it’s to say the post is all wet — as long as it gives some indication that the commenter has actually read the post.
So my recent rule is to comment on everything (or almost). The commentee (how’s that for bad grammar?) appreciates it, and it’s good for traffic. How can you lose?
I agree with you. As long as someone actually reads the post and makes a thought out comment I let them have some juice.
I also try and Leave comments on people’s blog that comment on my blog.
Another thing is I have been getting in the habit of re-tweeting articles I like.
I agree. Most blogs have their comments moderated to keep down on the spam. I just deleted over 100 outright spam and junky “I love your blog” type comments.
I also automatically delete those comments not in English. My blog is in English so why wouldn’t I want your comments to be the same?
Hi MsKatrina,
I get annoyed when I see all those I love your blog auto comments. I believe that is because they use that auto commenting software. They should be outlawed.
Thanks for posting!
I love your blog.. Err.. Sorry 🙂 Actually, I have been browsing your “webs” and sifting through the information found within.
I certainly feel the pain of “No Comments” In fact, I begged a friend of mine to simply post a comment on a few of my posts, and he obliged. I am getting views, but basically NO comments.. am I just not getting enough traffic? *boggle*
The best ways to start getting comments on your blog is to:
1. Join a blog tribe, like the one you see in my sidebar 🙂
2. Make sure you visit a lot of peoples blogs and leave really good comments. Take 10 to 15 minutes and really think about the comment you are going to leave.
3. Look for blogs that use comment love.
Cheers,
Larry
Hi Larry, yes we all like to be acknowledged and no comments when you know people are reading your posts can leave you feeling a bit dejected. I always try and leave good comments for this reason – because I know I appreciate them. Do unto others and all that jazz…
I know it’s a bit cliche to end a blog post with a question, but I do feel if the post begs a question then it should be asked because it lets people know that you want their comment: maybe they don’t know their comments are actually wanted?! It’s worth considering.
If people don’t want to list a bunch of questions to stimulate comments they could still end the blog post with a note or two about the type of comments they’re hoping people will leave. Such as: I’d be interested in hearing other people’s experiences of x,y,z in the comments section’ or ‘I’d like to hear from anyone who disagrees and why’ etc etc. Then it becomes a proper communication.
Anyhow, what do you think Larry? 🙂
Hi Roz, I think for most bloggers getting comments is a very important step. It shows that other people take interest in what you are writing.
When I first started blogging I would just write my blog post without asking peoples opinions. The results were for months nobody commented on my blog.
The 4 things I have done to increase comments on my blog where:
1. Leave comments on other peoples blogs
2. Ask questions in my blog post
3. Join a blog tribe
4. Focused on pagerank
