Who Is Right For Your Network Marketing Business?

Just this past weekend my friend held his team meeting in his basement. I brought him into my network marketing business because I already knew that he would really like the product. His topic was “know who your prospects are”.
We often are so eager to get started bringing people into our businesses that we forget that not everyone really is cut out to be a self – employed , self -motivated individual.
Network Marketing Prospecting The Easy Way
Over the years I always struggled with internet network marketing because 99% of the products created online really don’t market well offline. Think about it, how do you ask your friend to get involved with a business that involves the internet when your friend barely knows how to read their email?
Even worse is many network marketing coaches teach their new “recruits” that everyone is a prospect. This is simply not true and is another contributing factor to why people fail in network marketing.
The best way in my opinion is to prospect without prospecting 🙂 The way to do this is by being physically effected by your product. I say that because if someone approaches you and ask you about your product, your close rate will be much higher.
As an example: As many of you already know I recently started 7 minute workout. After doing 1 full workout cycle I was hooked. My enthusiasm for it is obvious. Once I felt that I was going to really jump in and market this product, I mentally made a list of 20 people I thought really could benefit from this product.
Let me stop right here for a minute!
This blog is on the first page for the keywords “Internet Network Marketing” I seriously have never marketed any network marketing business offline ever. I was attracted to network marketing only because I could do it online. Looking back what foolishness that thinking was.
It wasn’t that I was embarrassed to ask my friends, I just realized that what I was doing didn’t fit in with their lives. While you can build a business purely online, it takes a while to go through enough people to find the right people to work with.
Offline it is so much easier to target the right person to prospect.
How To Make Network Marketing Prospecting Painless!
You hear the saying “be a product of the product” in many mlm circles. Truer words were never spoken. The problem has been how do you really do that. Well the truth is for many network marketing products I really don’t know how to do that. I think the biggest killer of success in this industry is not really being a product of the product.
This is one of the reasons why I am attracted to the weight loss industry, I know that the only way for a person to be successful is to become the product. So the reality is people sell the wrong products. You may even be selling the wrong product. You know you selling the wrong product if the only focus you have in your prospecting is the compensation plan. In fact in the weight loss industry you don’t have to say anything at all and let your results speak for themselves.
Obviously I am on board with 7 minute workout, but I am sure there are many different network marketing products that have a similar effect. For example companies that sell cosmetics.
My wife moonlights in a company. She hates selling, she isn’t to fond of network marketing. She likes make – up and she likes money. I was really impressed by how easily she made sales in her business.
What was more interesting is the fact that the only reason she is in the company to begin with is so she can get her products at cost. But she really is a product of the product and makes sales pretty easily because of it.
Next time you are at a bbq or some other social function take a look around you. Look for common links. What do all these people share? What are they looking for? The game is finding something that almost everyone at a social function needs. After you find some common links, start looking for products that fit.
All you are really doing when you are prospecting is deciding who is a potential lead and who is not. Prospecting isn’t selling. Nor is it beating someone up. Prospecting can be as simple as handing someone a business card with your web address, if they should opt into your lead capture page you now have a lead you should follow up with.
When comes to using the internet to build your network marketing business always let the sales system do the selling for you. It is your job to refer people and that’s it. After a person joins you and shows interest , then it is time for you to be a good sponsor.
Back to my list of 20 people !
As I said I never marketed to my warm market before. I like many of you didn’t really know how to approach them about it because I already knew they weren’t interested in what I was peddling. With what I am doing now, I know when I open my front door pretty much everyone is a potential lead.
So I jotted down 20 names, besides signing people up off the internet I am also bringing in people that I know. Out of the 20 people , so far I have approached 10 of them. So far 5 have joined and 5 told me they will join soon. You may be wondering about the other 10, I haven’t approached them yet because I know what they need to see before they jump in.
Here is the most outrageous part.. I have always in the past spent money to buy traffic.. Doing it that way brought me sign ups, but many of those people leave before even giving it a chance. So far I haven’t spent any money and my business is blowing up…
It pays to prospect your business offline, just make sure what you are selling the people actually want and need. If you have to convince someone that they need what you have, than you aren’t prospecting very well.

Yes fully agree with this authentic post. your every line and word are very authentic about online marketing and i also agree with you that 99% of the products cannot market efficiently;y offline if we try them. great sharing
Larry,
In reference to your paid traffic…organic SEO is the only way to go, man.
Its free and the leads are highly targeted.
SEO, man, SEO…;)
Mark
While i agree that free organic seo rocks!! If you know what you are doing it can pay to advertise. Ultimately whatever gets results for you is what you do. I think the best approach is to develop multiple streams of traffic. One thing is certain in network marketing the only way to start getting paid is to take massive action. I like to tell my peeps to only do things they know will put money in there pockets.
NICE! You changed your gravatar!! Goods stuff man..
Great suggestions on taking a digital product to the offline world. It’s not easy as a digital product by definition is just 1’s and 0’s and has no meaning in our “real” world. If you can make it “real” by being a product of it then you’ve bridged the gap.
Hi Diana, thanks for stopping by.
I believe the most important thing is whatever you are selling you find real value in it. If you do it is much easier to share your excitement with others.. In many cases simply by being you, your enthusiasm can become contagious.
I was greatly enlightened by your post. I am guilty of convincing people that they need what I have, that my product/services can make their life easier. I just learned that it isn’t good at all. No, it’s no good thinking about making profit all the time. You do need to focus on the things that your consumer want or need.
Hi Ruth, that is okay. When I first got started online marketing I started with good intentions.
“figure out how to make money online and share my knowledge”
For a moment there I got caught up with my sponsor and upline. I was being spoonfed b.s..
The most important thing you can do for your network marketing business is develop real friendships with the people you bring in.
always remember that each member who comes on your team is a equal business partner. Have patience and be encouraging.
At some point each of us have to pick up the ball and build our own business. As sponsors we are hear to help guide a person and share our experience and knowledge. At the end of the day its up to the individual to do what must be done.
Glad you found a product to be passionate about. I believe that for the ‘heavy hitters’ in Network Marketing – the product doesn’t matter as long as there’s something emotional people can latch on to – health drinks, vitamins, cancer-curing stem-cell based super-duper pills – you get the idea.
For the rest of us without 40,000-strong downlines to draw from, a product we love and believe in makes it EASY to share. It’s no longer ‘selling’ but sharing enthusiasm.
That, by it’self, is powerful.
Hi Jon I really appreciate you ,btw a friend of mine up the street is in Javita, she loves the coffee.
Anyhow..
“I believe that for the ‘heavy hitters’ in Network Marketing – the product doesn’t matter as long as there’s something emotional people can latch on to – health drinks, vitamins, cancer-curing stem-cell based super-duper pills – you get the idea.”
I actually know a few “heavy Hitters” I don’t agree with their philosophy and I believe it is many of the heavy hitters that are the problem.
You see, while being a heavy hitter is okay if you have a network marketing team in place to work with folks. But many of these hitters bring people into businesses selling a hell of a lot of sizzle and meager portions of steak.
The first 4 network marketing businesses I joined under some big names thinking I was going to get some good insider info and help.
Boy o Boy was I wrong.
Selling enthusiasm is great! But lets be honest, most of the enthusiasm isn’t for the actual product but for the compensation plan.
Most heavy hitters I have spoken with are selfish, self centered, money motivated only… All in all not someone I would invite to a bbq….
Thanks Jon for sharing, I value your opinion and is always welcomed here. 🙂
Bottom line for me is this. Heavy hitters put their shirt on the same way us common folk do. If they can’t get their noses out of their own ass and really appreciate how hard their teams work for them.
They don’t deserve the money they earn.. I know a lot of “big” names who talk all types of shizzit. When it comes down to it though they are no where to be found.. Know what i mean?
Perfect informative post as you have shared a all true concern to this.
As in any marketing the main thing is customer satisfaction only then only we get success in this.
I agree, customer satisfaction should come first.
Its always a great pleasure to read your articles Larry and this is another great post. The article is so perfectly written that I don’t have anything to add other than agreeing with you. Trying to know the right client/ customer is the first task in any business.
Thanks Mel 🙂
I’m a bit skeptical about buying products online. Let’s just say a brand of expensive skin care creams. It’s a bit scary for me because I haven’t tried it before. All I want is the owner will assure me personally that the product is quite alright.
Even though you were in my spam folder and even though you don’t have a gravatar I will allow the comment for one reason. That is because it helps prove my point.
The best type of product is one that you can guarantee results. If there is doubt that the product may or may not work, then it is probably a good idea not to market that product.
Hello Larry
Wow this is a great truth, “Offline it is so much easier to target the right person to prospect.”, today we don’t read many statements like this. You not only make the statement, then you proceed to tell us why in when you write,
“just make sure what you are selling the people actually want and need. If you have to convince someone that they need what you have, than you aren’t prospecting very well.” In most case if you have to convince them this quote is true. “Those convinced against their will are of the same opinion still.”
