Not long ago people where running around going door to door trying to sell their snake oils and potions. I remember back in 1994 a friend of mine came over with a catalog and tried to get me to joinÂ this network marketing company called amway. He totally focused on how I could use the products to save money and that I would be rewarded if I brought people into the business.
I asked him how I would do that. His reply was its simple just write down on a piece of paper everyone you know and start calling them. Well that turned me off rightÂ away I didn’t want to call my friends and try and sell them into a network marketing business at the time that was a dirty word to me.
I should have joined his business back then but I didn’t really understand how the business worked at the time and he didn’t really do a good job of explaining it.Â He focused on the product instead of focusing on what he could do for me. It took coming online and studying network marketing for me to really start to understand what it was all about.Â It is about building long lasting friendships with like minded people.
Network Marketing And Relationship Building
I often say that the product doesn’t matter. While it does matter, I mean who wants to join a business that has no point to it? The product is not as important as the person you are joining a business with. Having a good relationship with that person is the most important thing.
The reality is that it’s not the product that is going to win over your prospect, it is your personality that will. So much emphasis is put on the selling the sizzle and not the steak that people forget that there are many skills that you have to learn to be successful in the network marketing industry. Top of the list is relationship building.
Because on the internet has enabled us to sit behind our computer screens and not get personal it has led many people to believe that you don’t have to pick up the telephone and you don’t have to be on conference calls etc.. This is simply not true. You absolutely need to be a team player and you need to be there to support your new recruit. I say recruit because that is exactly who they are.
If you are unable to show them how to make money on the internet your downline will never take a life of its own. I joined network marketing businessesÂ online where my uplines opinion was some will some won’t so what. I always thought that was a terrible philosophy to have.Â That mentality is only there because of the way people bring people into these businesses. They focus on getting them in and moving on to the next person.Â Personally because of people like that (and there are many of them) parts of this industry disgust me.
