Overcoming Obstacles – Biting Off More Than You Can Chew
Our minds are incredible machines. We are able to process all sorts of stuff. We are good problem solvers. Why is it than so many people seem to never reach their goals in life? This is something that I have been thinking about lately.
Overweight people promise themselves every year that they are going to loose weight, but every year that comes by they fail to achieve that victory. Thousands of people come online determined to be successful as online marketers, yet so many people end up walking away disgusted.
So the question that begs asking is how do we change that?
The Importance of Overcoming Obstacles
If you spend your life letting problems hold you back you will never get to the top of the mountain. Even worse is spending your life making excuses why you didn’t achieve what you started out to achieve this will cause you to never realize your dreams. Overcoming Obstacles is the only way you will ever truly grow as a person and in your business. You should look forward to all the different road blocks that may be in your path each one is a chance for you to become a better you.
Ever notice that if you are alone you only do 80% of what you are capable of doing. A good example is a guy in the gym. Left to his own devices he will only do what he feels is needed. If a beautiful woman walks in all of sudden he is Samson and he is benching 45lbs more than he ever done before. I am sure you heard of the stories about mothers who lift cars up to save their pinned babies. Why is it we can muster so much courage, strength and genius when feel we absolutely need to , but left on our own we hardly lift a finger? It is this inner substance that is needed for overcoming obstacles.
A Simple Solution To Over Coming Obstacles

While we know when we exercise that we shouldn’t over train , people every year end up injuring themselves from over training, even people that should know better. I know that when a person decides to loose weight they start out with good intentions but end up falling short.
The reason is because we only see the end result, we never actually see what is in front of us. Because of this we never actually take the time to take it inch by inch, step by step, one day at a time. Tomorrow doesn’t matter, only today does. Don’t make overcoming obstacles harder than it has to be. Many times we make mountains out of molehills.
We have no control over tomorrow, but we do have control of right now! If you where forced to hold your child over a cliff and if you let go your child would fall to their death, would that be enough incentive to hold on with every single fiber of your existence?
When one of martial arts students ask me how I find the courage to fight in the face of danger my answer is very simple. I imagine that my little girls life is on the line and the person standing in front of me is going to kill her violently if I don’t stop him. That pretty much takes away my fear of the situation.
I have been told “Larry this online marketing stuff comes easy for you, YOU don’t understand how hard this is for me” That is absolute nonsense every day I am finding out just how little bit I know , but every day I continue to learn and move forward. What makes me so special is the fact that I am not so special. I am a average dude just taking it day by day.
You Can Start Overcoming Obstacles Today!

Spend just 5 more minutes every day doing something to further your business along. That is an extra 35 min’s a week. That is a whopping 245 minutes a month more than you where doing before. At minimum that is a few blog post, an article or two submitted. You could learn how to do seo, the possibilities of what you could do with that extra time are limitless.
My last bit of advice is to create a daily goal journal and each day you accomplish what you have written in your journal mark it off. After a year go back and see how far you have journeyed.
Do you have a hard time overcoming obstacles? What do you do to get past them? In a million years I never thought I would be teaching martial arts and writing in this blog. English and writing where my worst subjects in school. Anything is possible if you are willing to believe :). Finally overcoming obstacles isn’t a matter of trying, as a wise man once said do or do not.

Hi David , thanks for stopping by.
Hi Larry,
I like your incentive for fighting. I also think it’s important as network marketers to take a similar approach as it pertains to their business. I truly believe this is the only way to become successful.
If you don’t market as if your life depends on it, you probably won’t do what is needed to get you where you want to go.
Also, I believe it was Yoda who said “Do or do not. There is no try.”
Awesome post. Thanks for sharing. Talk soon.
Gregory
Hi Gregory, I agree you have to market like your life depends on it. Because in many cases it does …
Enjoy this inspiring read, so glad to be here (thanks for your visit earlier, sorry it took me awhile to get here). 🙂
“We have no control over tomorrow, but we do have control of right now!” Well said. I remember when I started my online/freelance journey, nothing was easy. There was a point when I nearly gave up but persistence got me through. I agree to never give up and treat all obstacles as new challenges to learn & grow to be better. You’ll be amazed to see the rainbow when the storm is over. 🙂 Keep up the great work!

Hi Ching Ya, thanks for stopping by.
Hi Larry,
Do you remember, “no retreat, no surrender”? This post reminds me of that great 80’s film.
No matter what the world places in our path we have the wherewithall within ourselves to overcome it. What others can do, so can we.
The trick is not to give up. Apply what you learn from your experiences and share your learning with others so they can succeed by following your example.
Great stuff, Larry
Peter
Hi Peter, I think I remember that movie, wasn’t that the one with Van Dam?
Yup you can’t give up only losers quit…
Yeah. Van Damme with the splits on the top rope….but he got his come uppance as our hero, inspired by the Lee master, overcame the obstacle!
Hey Larry,
Super post.
I run into this all the time. It’s the “I can’t” list. It is a mile long for folks. Just like you, I keep learning and find out more I don’t know every day. I don’t put it on my “I can’t” list though. I put it on my “Do” list.

Hi Fred, thanks for stopping by. I love Art Williams just do it! For those that never heard it you can here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b2uFH0NCMY4
Hi Larry,
This is a very inspiring post – you’re doing personal development teaching here.
Yes, there are things you’ll never actually do on your own, as I learnt last weekend, if left to your own devices and your unquestioned beliefs. The question isn’t if “it can be doneâ€, it’s “can I do it?â€
Yes, you can. Entrepreneurial and online marketing success requires lots of personal development, self-discipline, right mindset, the desire to succeed, perseverance, the right support system and solid step by step educational material you can understand and actually implement.
The journey of a 1000 miles starts with the first step, but you’ll actually get there with the second step and the third and so on. Just keep at it.
Hi Ben Wan, thanks for stopping by. Ya the common thread I find with all successful marketers online, is their willingness to learn new things and they always have a winner’s attitude.
This is a very motivational piece! I usually only workout alone, but I definitely notice that I want to push myself more when I am around others.
Hope to read more from you soon,
Steven
HiHi Larry,
A great post my friend. One of the biggest lessons I learned when it comes to goals is to not let yourself be an obstacle to the outcome.
I used to set goals, really great goals and while I took action on the goals themselves, I would focus my thoughts on what what I didn’t want rather than on what I wanted.
So if your goal is to generate 5 new leads every day and you take the action to make this happen but thoughts are about not having even one lead to speak to, then the goal is always blocked.
~Marcus
Hi Marcus,
You are right some people have the right intention but get blocked by their own stinking thinking so to speak.
Larry,
Right on! Overcoming obstacles is all about baby steps.
I think we’ve all “bitten off more than we can chew” on a New Year’s or two. That just leads to burn out. Just take it one little bit at a time.
Thanks for the reminder Larry,
Stacia
Hi Stacia, thanks for stopping by and commenting
It is all about setting goals, but achievable goals. To use your example of a person wanting to lose weight, they might focus on their end target weight and size, rather than making smaller and achievable goals as they go along – which keeps you encouraged rather than discouraged that you haven’t lost 120 pounds in one week : )
Hi Svetlana, thanks for stopping by. That is very true. I remember when I was thinking about loosing weight, the prospect of loosing 50lbs kept me procrastinating for months before I actually started. Once I set the goal of loosing 2lbs a week it became mentally much easier to reach my goal.
Hey 🙂 I’m so very glad I stumbled upon your site! We really do think alike on so many things. I’ve snooped around different posts by you and feel like FINALLY I can relate with someone who has actually found success with Internet Marketing. It’s so refreshing to find a place where someone puts all the BS aside and actually speaks from the heart, remembering that everyone has to start somewhere. Ok, enough of the mushy stuff.
I’m a newbie in the marketing world and recently got my first site up (www.ecigchic.com) and going. After a few cosmetic fixes (logo is almost done 🙂 and some minor changes it will be complete. So many times I felt overwhelmed and confused during the process but kept going because I truly felt it was my calling. As a single Mommy with a passion for social media/marketing, I welcome any advice and/or tips. Actually, I’d be extremely grateful! Thanks again for such great information 😀
Hi Christina, thanks for stopping by. I checked out your site looks cool. It can be easy to feel overwhelmed. Just take it one day at a time, email me if you have any specific questions.

Do you have a hard time overcoming obstacles? What do you do to get past them?
Larry, some obstacles are easier than others for me. The hardest ones I find are when you have to get over your own fear of something – those are the toughest cookies. The fear I find is always internal and tends to give way too much importance to the obstacle thus magnifying it and making it seem much bigger than it really is. Handle the fear part and all of a sudden the obstacle seems much smaller.
Public speaking is a good example. I talk about it a lot on my blog because as a sales person I’m expected to be able to be quite good at this and yet it’s the bit of sales that I find the most challenging (and envy anyone to whom speaking well comes naturally). I run right into fear with this but as I work on it I find I get better at it. I used to be scared that if I made a stumble people would look upon me badly and I used to be terrified that people would hear the fear in my voice (you can always hear it) which of course compounded the issue.
The only way I’ve got to overcome this fear is by studying it really hard and knowing my subject really well. I find that if I don’t understand it I can’t talk about it, simples. Other people may be blessed withe the ability to ad lib, but not I. So I study my subject relentlessly, memorise verbatim the first 30 seconds of my speech (they are the hardest 30 seconds) and remember that the audience is usually very friendly.
So to answer your question – hard work, realising that it aint easy, practise, determination, study and positive thinking.
Hi Larry!
You really inspired me, I’ve experience a bunch of trials in life especially in internet marketing but still I’m holding on and I’m still believing myself that I can go far. This is such a great help for me Larry, on how to overcome trials in life. A lot of thanks to you and this is great!
Hi Larry!
Great advices and insights. There is nobody who doesn’t experience hard trials in life weather you are rich or poor. We always facing trials in everyday of our life, In my case I always facing it especially in internet marketing I always experience rejection, disappointments and discouragements but still I use to conquer it and ignore everything that bothers me. I just positive always and always in a right attitude.
What you have said is true but only few persons realize that they can solve their problems.. However thanks for this advice that reminds me to always do the best today, not tomorrow.. 🙂
