Mood Swings Can Damage Your Productivity Level
Source: someecards.com via Larry on Pinterest
They come out of nowhere. Your having a great day then BAM POW you end up having a mood swing from hell. These mood swings can be very damaging not just to your business but also to your day to day life. Mood swings can lead to all sorts of bad stuff like depression, hopelessness a feeling that your drowning and nobody is throwing you a life preserver.
Once these mood swings happen you start to notice that you are staring blankly at your computer screen wondering why are you even trying to better your life. I have had many a moment when I would say to myself
DAMIT, I should just give this shit up and go get a job already!
A Decade Of Mood Swings And How To Handle It
I am not a doctor or anything like that, but I can talk from experience. I have had my fits of depression, despair, hopelessness and many other negative feelings. I have spent day after day after day staring at the computer watching and reading other people’s fantastic stories of success only to be snapped to reality by my own failures.
…After all,
at what point do you say fine:
I am throwing in the towel , wheres the newspaper I gots to get me a j.o.b
A true entrepreneur never throws in the towel every obstacle brings us 1 step closer to ultimate victory. All set backs mean one hell of a comeback :). I have had my fair share of ups and downs everyone who has a success story also has a story of ultimate defeat.
My secret cure for mood swings
I suppose it’s not really a secret, the knowledge has been available to you for thousands of years. It’s more likely nobody has ever broke it down for you before so consider this information highly valuable, because the truth is (WHAT I AM ABOUT TO SHARE WITH YOU CAN AND WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE IF YOU LET IT)
Did I say that last part loud enough?
Oddly enough the secret to controlling your mood swings or getting over your mood swings is hidden within my martial arts training. There are 3 exercises I do regularly.
- Chi Gung
- Tai Chi
- Chi Sao
Do you notice anything about those three disciplines?
…That’s right they all have the word Chi in them.
Most folks would say something along the lines of
Ya! I know what that means it means energy…
And they are kinda sorta right, in a non understanding way. Chi is actually your life force, believe in it or not you have it. The secret isn’t the chi per say, the secret is what the chi helps you do.
That is to say regulate your breathing pattern. Did you know that all of your emotions and feelings are tied into your breathing. That’s right, if your scared your breathing changes, if you excited your breathing changes, if your working out your breathing changes. In fact everything you do involves your breathing which also involves your chi.
…Do you understand what I mean?
So instead of going all obi one kenobi on you and telling you about the Jedi path. Let’s just say you need to take some time out and learn some simple breathing exercises. I could teach them to you via Chi Gung, but it’s much more simpler for me to do a youtube search and find some info on breathing techniques.
Note: The same breathing a fighter or soldier uses in combat is the same breathing a person yelling at friend uses. Broken down all that means is we all have chi and we all use chi, some of us realize it, while others are oblivious to it.
With that said I have a few things you can do that can help change your mood swings.
1. Go for a walk
2. Do some basic easy stretches first, helps focus the mind
3. Spend some time breathing
4. This is the most important one, surround yourself with people who have a positive impact in your life. Get rid of all the dead weight that is just holding you back from being your best YOU.
…Oh one more thing 🙂
Get involved with a home based business like the one I am in. Money sucks, I hate the stuff! But in order to do the things you want to do and have the stuff you want to have you need money plain and simple.

And here I was expecting some Jedi Mind Tricks. I actually enjoyed your post here, and I guess what you’re saying about breathing does make sense. I’ll have to watch that video and see if I can pick up anything new.
Now I’m not someone who has very many mood swings, usually pretty level emotionally, but I do have my own personal demon that I fight on a daily basis. Pain. Constant Pain. In multiple areas. Some days are better than others, but the pain never goes away. I could go into the story of why, but it would take entirely too long for this comment.
When I first started dealing with this, it was a difficult road for me, and still is, but I learned that if I focused on what I was doing, giving it my full attention, I could ignore the pain and not let it affect my moods. This is when I learned that regulating my breathing helped me to focus on the task at hand.
I’ll be watching that video shortly. Good Post. Thanks.
Hi Darryl, thanks for stopping by and commenting..
Sorry to hear about your pain..
Thanks for sharing your story 🙂
Not a problem, we all have something we have to overcome. It’s taught me more about myself than anything else. Have a great one!
That’s true we all have things in our lives that we have to overcome. Have a great day! 🙂
Mood swings definitely interfere with productivity.
When I get them, I ask myself if I am asking myself to do too much work. I tend to get sidetracked more easily if I have worked 7 or 8 consecutive days, or if I have put in a 10 hour day on my computer.
Exercise is something you should be doing anyway. I am not familiar with the Chi routines.
Hi David, thanks for commenting.. Ya long days can bring you down for sure.
I didn’t know that the same things I am doing to be living in the moment are good for mood swings either. I have been given the task to sit stil, breath and just ‘be’ for 15 minutes every two hours. The idea being to stop worrying about what to do next. This would work great for mood swings. It certainly clears my head. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Ryan, it’s amazing what a little breathing can do for the mind and body..
Good post! We have a culture that worships “productivity” and going without sleep is often a badge of honor and it will also affect moods. But the truth is that we are less productive and will have problems with memory and concentration if we ignore the need for sleep. Finding a way to get enough sleep could boost your effectiveness in ways that will surprise you.
Hi Mika, thanks for commenting.
…Interestingly Chi Gung practitioners usually need less hours of sleep than non practitioners.
Everybody has their own mood swings which affects the mental strength.it totally depends on the persons ability to tackle the situation and come up with the various ups and downs in life.
if one cannot handle the pressure of his/her mood swing then many problems may arise such as depression, hopelessness. And one has to overcome it as soon as possible.
Meditation is a good exercise to cure it.
Hi Aditya, meditation is a excellent way to mitigate stress related conditions. Meditation is also a great way to combat mood swings 🙂
Yes larry and meditation while doing camping in Assateague Maryland will surely make a differnce 🙂 🙂
🙂 WORD!
I can definitely relate to mood swings as I experience them quite often. Just out of nowhere, it feels like my whole world is crashing down and I’m lonely and I’m missing out on experiencing life the right way.
I have started going out on a daily walk since last year. If nothing else, it gives me a much needed gulp of fresh air and experiencing the surroundings and perhaps even meeting a friend or two whom I can chat with. All of that helps tremendously. I have seen that on days I am unable to go for my daily walk, depression kicks in and the feeling of isolation and hopelessness is back.

Hi Jean, that’s very true. I noticed if I miss a workout or I don’t get any physical activity for awhile, my mood starts to go south.
It also helps to be surrounded by understanding and caring people. Sometimes lonelyness in of itself can cause mood swings.
Good Morning,
Being a woman I know all about mood swings and so does my family, you gave a lot of great words of advise to follow using breathing techniques. Also removing the negative from ones life is a great way to keep one in a better mood. Thank for sharing.
Hi Stephanie, thanks for stopping by and commenting. Family life can certainly cause it’s fair share of mood swings.
Definitely I am firm believer though that if people around you are bringing you down you need to find new friends.
Thanks for stopping by 🙂
Hi Larry,
Yes – I do agree with you. Though one would like to think that your state of mind and mood has no effect on the content you are producing, but the fact is that is has an dramatic effect the way we perceive things and the reactions resulting from short-thinking can be quite damaging to your image and or content.
Hi Anton, there has been moments where I said things that I didn’t mean to say. I like the word you used “short-thinking”.
It’s always a good idea to step back for a second and think about what you want to say.
There are times when I sit down to blog and my head isn’t into it. It’s at those times I do something else altogether and then come back with a fresh outlook.

Mood swings definitely hinder productivity.
When I have them, I ask myself if I’m working too much. I often get sidetracked more easily basically have worked 10-12 hours straight or something alike
Hi Edward, it can be very easy to fall into a mood swing trap. When I catch myself having one, I try and change a variable.
For Example:
1. Maybe it’s the music I am listening too, I switch songs
2. Maybe it’s who I am around, I leave the room
There could be any number of reasons why your having one.
I found though that the bestest 🙂 not sure that’s a word , thing to do is go get some exercise. It’s good for the body, it’s good for the mind and it’s good for the soul.
MLM is really the great way to have more market. But some exceptional thing you presented in your writing is totally different that I know before. It changed my view of marketing. Thank you.
Hi Larry,
Sanjib again. I completely agree with you that ‘mood swings can damage your productivity level’. The remedy and source are interlinked here. Many of us experience mood swings and other evil called depression due to reasons like stiff competition, pressures in the job and at home, failures and other unique problems. But that should not cause a potential damage to one’s abilities. We should try to come out of these problems by taking support from the ones whom you trust. It is all in your hands.
Regards,
Sanjib
I couldn’t of said it better 🙂 Cheers!
What works great for moodswings is indeed to get physical. Do some pushups, situps, walk, run, swim, anything. This will mentally distract your mind, and it releases dopamine and other happy chemicals in your brain.
Cuddling also works great! And watching videos of laughing babies.
Take care
Hmmm, I suppose the cousin of that is “take ten deep breaths” which is a saying for when we’re stressed or angry. I wonder whether with these breathing techniques we’re fooling the body into thinking that the situation we’re in is not stressful?
I think we hyperventilate when were stressed out. The act of breathing slowly helps bring blood to all our organs. I think that act helps to mitigate the effect of stress.
