Facebook Page – Did You Know?

The whole point of creating a Facebook Page for your business is to build a fan base of people interested in your product or service, right? Facebook Pages are a great tool for interacting with your fans on a regular basis and to discover whether or not your product or service is right for them. But to build a HUGE fan base you need people clicking the all mighty “LIKE” button. Yep, the tiny little button sitting at the top of your page. 🙂
Gone are the days of “Become a fan.” Today, it’s all about the “LIKES” and YOU WANT them (a lot of them!) Because without them… you have ZERO reach. If you have zero reach, you make ZERO dollars. And this is where most Page Admins fall flat on their face.
Let me explain…
Have you ever visited a Facebook Page for a business, only to land on their “Wall” where you see the comments and status updates? If so, did it make you want to “LIKE” the page?
Probably not.
Allowing your visitors to land on your “Wall” is the #1 mistake Page Admins are making all across Facebook.
But it doesn’t have to be this way…
Because as a Page Admin, you have the ability to set the “Default Landing Tab” for your Page.
See the screen shot below:
You’ll first need to install the FBML application into your page (which is beyond the scope of this post unfortunately.) This will allow you to create a custom tab on your Page. Once you have your custom tab, you will want to create some type of “offer” along with a “call to action” to entice people to “LIKE” your page.
An example offer would be something like this:
“Click Like Above To Get Access To _______”
It’s proven that you will get more “Likes” just by making this one small change to your Facebook Page.
Good luck!

What a great resource you are! This custom tab is something I have been toying with for awhile now. It took me some time to get on the fan page wagon and I have wanted to make sure everyhting was in order before really promoting it. I can see I will be visiting here for the tips I need!
All the best,
Lisa
Great advice, James. It’s amazing how many people have no clue about this and how huge of a difference such simple change makes.

Nice point James and I agree by creating a landing page you can easily create more call to action.,.!!
Terrific Post! I am really into social media right now (like everyone else out there!), especially Facebook Marketing and FBML. It can be hard to keep up to date with such a fast changing innovative topic but I manage to do it through the fan page factory (http://facebook.com/thefanpagefactory ?) and blog posts exactly like yours. Tips and tricks rock. I am trying to learn as much as possible to put myself ahead of the curve. So thank you again!
Enjoy!

Also, theres this brand new site called lujure.com where you don’t need any coding anymore!…it automatically does it for you. Good for people like me that don’t know how to code too well :
Definitely one of those “DOH!” moments. I wondered about the FBML app, but now it makes more sense. I just thought it was something that came with Facebook business pages. Thanks for the education, and the visuals!

Great post!
That came in just in time when I needed it the most! My facebook fanpage has been stuck at about 170 fans for about a week now, for some apparent reason people stopped liking it anymore!
I’ll certainly try your tip out, hopefully it will help attract more fans
Thanks James
I completely agree with this simple yet vital tweak to a Facebook fan page. Just check out the social media maven Mari Smith for an example of a quality Facebook landing tab. Her visually appealing tab and the call to action really offer a compelling argument to Like her page. Great post!

I just created a fan page and with this article, I now have a good idea how to improve the fan base. Thanks swomming buddy Larry… great blogging here!
Hey Thor! Thanks for stopping by.
I thought Facebook is just for a complete fun of social networking. I am wrong. Facebook also intended for marketing activities especially designed for internet based businesses.
I’ve been created facebook fan page regarding with my blog and it works actually, but as time goes by using it I’ll get disappointed (it’s a long story), I thought facebook is such a good stuff for marketing businesses but I was wrong. That’s it, thanks for this good points!
Just getting started with Facebook marketing. I find the whole admin layout/menus confusing to navigate, not very intuitive. Very easy to miss settings like this.
A very thought provoking article. I’ve been created FB fan web page concerning along with my own weblog and it works really, yet Over the years using it I’ll acquire let down , I figured my page is really an excellent stuff for marketing and advertising businesses yet I was incorrect. That’s it, Thanks for this good points!
This is advice that has real application. I see the whole point of using social media as building a brand and a large part of that is getting “likes” on a business Facebook page. Reinforces what all marketers should know: you must have a call to action to get the type of conversion rate you are looking for.
Agreed! the FBML app is indeed useful and a good way to get more likes.
I am appreciate with you that Facebook page admins should set the ” Default landing tab ” but If there is feature to pin the post on wall like in Facebook groups. In Facebook group , we can pin any post which always shows on top. I just want to say If we can also do this for pages wall then we can easily do our best. 😉
Integrating landing pages and facebook page is a great combo. Thanks for the tip.
PS: I read somewhere that if you posts something like “4 more likes to read 2000”, you are more likely to get more likes.
