Social media is considered to be the new wave of advertising and marketing, which is why a lot of business owners, especially those of small businesses, are taking advantage of it.
So, aside from having their personal Facebook and Twitter accounts, they wind up creating new ones for their business, giving them multiple accounts that need management.
It has been said that those who want to milk social media for all it can be worth to any company, the uses must have a strategy that is all inclusive.
This is why saying that you should use less social media networks seems to be entirely against the grain.
One of the greatest benefits that social media can give is the amount of traffic it can give your website. It also attracts the customers of your brand and with these benefits alone it is easy to defend why we should use social media a lot. The truth of the matter is that amidst the whole social media frenzy, we often think that more is better when it comes to social media accounts. We forget to see which one is the most effective and we wind up joining each and every new platform that is released in the hopes of boosting the company’s presence.
Having multiple accounts will ultimately lead to these online personas being against one another. A truly savvy social media manager knows how to incorporate all those accounts into a single yet effective account. If you find yourself spending time on a social media website that is not giving you the results you thought it would, best to leave it and move on to another platform that may perform better. No matter what platform you use, it will entirely be pointless if the brand you are creating has little to no value or if it is found to be uninteresting. The content of your account must be able to reach to the consumers without seeming like a door to door salesman. The idea is to promote and not peddle.
By having a minimal number of social media accounts, you will find that the posts you publish will be much more varied since you have multiple topics under one umbrella. Use your topic as an embellishment for other ideas that may be of interest and you will be surprised at how many more people respond. Also, you will no longer be competing with yourself on various social media websites to see which one can get the most traffic. By having a unified account, you can have a much more effective springboard.
Lastly, you have much fewer accounts to maintain which means less work and more focus on quality, not quantity. You can direct all your efforts towards one platform, making sure that it is the best it can possible be. This way, you will not be a jack of all trades, and will hopefully be a master of one.

Nancy, this was a very interesting post. I’ve been working with the social networks for years now and find that higher quality content really helps to grow faster. The better the quality of the content and (did I forget to mention) interaction with the readers/users, the more growth you’ll see. Think of social media like the relationship with your girlfriend, wife, or significant other. It takes a lot of time, attention, and communication to keep it healthy. This is the same as social media. Interact with users and you will notice a huge change.
Useful points, It’s essential have few social networking accounts but they should offer quality and interesting content so that you can make your trust and position among your audience. By focusing too many accounts you’re just wasting time as you won’t be able to deliver your best at any place.

I agree – there’s no point insisting promoting your website on a social community if you have no result, just because it’s famous; e.g. Twitter didn’t work for one of my projects, so didn’t put any effort into it afterwards.
