So You Know What Online Niche Business You Want To Start Now What?
Let me guess, you are waking up in the middle of the night excited about your new online niche business. The only problem is where do you start? In this blog post we are going to discuss some of the steps you should take when getting ready to start your new online business.
I admit it, when I first started marketing on the internet I didn’t really have the first idea how important branding was. Your brand represents you. Some of you may be tempted to go to fivver and pay someone to create a cheap logo for you and call it day.
As I just said, your brand represents you. If you care about what you are doing you will take the time to get a good logo that fits your vision perfectly. When you are thinking about getting involved with a online niche business you want your brand logo to represent you and what you are doing. Again I want to stress that first impressions go along way. One of the first things your potential customer/subscriber/follower will notice is your logo.
To give you an idea of what it would cost you to have a decent logo created it can cost anywhere from $50 to $450. More depending on who you outsource the work to. I really don’t advise you doing it yourself.
I have tried that myself in the past and the results have always been bad. Simply put I am not a graphic designer, I don’t have an eye for that kind of thing. If you already are an expert in the niche you want to get involved with, your time is best spent on focusing on what you do best.
We are in niche consumption mode, but ‘niche’ doesn’t mean ‘small’ anymore.
Niche can mean focused, and particularly with the Web, which is a global audience…
you can have something niche and still get 10 to 15 million views.

What Kind Of Website To Create For Your Online Niche Business?
When I got started online, I used templates to build my websites. They were static sites and often times I spent $45 to $95 for the template. Then I had to use a html editor, I used Microsoft Expressions. Once your site is built you then had to upload the site to the internet via FTP.
Now there are couple of things here I’d like to discuss with you.
- You may be tempted to use those easy to use web designer programs that come with web hosting accounts. Don’t do it, those sites look cheesy and they really aren’t that attractive nor do they convey your brand very well.
- 99.9% of the time you can build your niche site using a WordPress CMS (Content Management System) AKA -> A Blog
WordPress has the ability to take on many different looks and feels. There are literally thousands of themes that you can use. Certainly if you are fairly new to the world of online marketing, blogs are easy to create and maintain even for a beginner.
If you want a really good site that really represents you and your brand, most likely you are going to have to outsource the web design process. To be honest though, you don’t have to do that until after you have your site up and running. I’ll explain why shortly…
Just to give you an idea web design can cost anywhere from a few hundred dollars to several thousands dollars and everything in between. It all depends on what you want to do with your site. It’s normal for web design companies to charge $15,000 to design a site from the ground up for clients.
Which is another reason to go with something like wordpress or joomla. It’s less expensive to build your site using those platforms. You can get a pretty decent looking site for around $495.
How Does The World See Your Online Niche Business?
I don’t know anyone who hasn’t heard of social networks. There are people in the world that still don’t use them. If you are serious about wanting to start an online empire, you will need to connect to social networks.
There are 4 really important networks to be a part of. Facebook, Youtube, Linkedin and Google+ maybe Twitter depending on your niche. If your niche community is using Twitter you also should be using Twitter.
You also want your social network sites to be themed out as best you can. You want all your sites to have congruence.
The biggest thing in niche marketing is not just getting the one guy who appeals to one particular group.
But getting the guy that resonates deeply with the general market.
That way you get a double hit because everybody in the general market appreciates him.

Testing The Market For Your Online Niche Business
Before thinking about spending money on your hobby/passion/skill you want to first find out what people are talking about in your niche. You can do this by visiting forums within your niche.
Another good way of finding out if there is interest in your niche is to create a youtube channel and start uploading content and see if anyone is searching for the information you are offering.
To Wrap This Post Up!
At the heart of your online niche business will be your personal space. The best solution is to create a blog. There are many options when it comes to building a blog, I recommend using wordpress.
WordPress has proven itself for many years now as a solid platform that can grow with you. In fact if you look at some of the biggest online niche business models, they are indeed wordpress blogs. You may not notice at first because of awesome web design work. Under the hood though is a solid running wordpress engine.
What obstacles have you been running into when it comes to running your own online niche business?

In my opinion WordPress and joomla is a great choice for starters,,,as they will cost them less and then they can spend the money on something else which might help their business more in certain ways…
Hi Jawad, I don’t think the cost matters. If you have good design done it can still cost a bit of money to get up and running, especially if you want your site to have that professional appearance.
While I feel cost is always a factor. It shouldn’t be your driving force when you are developing your niche site.
Hello Larry,
This is so true, and the thing is when you do find your niche, you have to be really focus on it and not be all over the place. What will help you with making money online is to have a solid vision and focus.
Keep Blogging.. 🙂
Hi Mainak, that is very true. To many times I talk to someone who is all over the place. They have all these great ideas the only problem is they aren’t getting anywhere with them.
I love WordPress, it’s a great platform, I just think it’s the best. Ok, about the niche business discussion.
I think there are no more hidden markets. There are just millions of websites on any kind of product. So it’s a lot difficult. Ok, many give up, so from time to time there is space for new bloggers.
The problem here is there’s too much, too many, too many advertised products. And the Internet is exploding even more in the next years.
Hi Jake,
I don’t think someone should look for the “hidden market” rather I believe that someone should focus on something that they love to do.
People with scarcity mentality worry about competition. Competition is healthy and it is a sign that there is money to be made in that niche.

When it comes to an online niche based company, my favorite would have to be Razer. I remember they even had a very low point and almost went out of business [I think during the 90s] . When it comes to your online based business, I don’t believe it always has to do with the platforms you choose, I believe it also has to do with persistent. You may have a rough start… but if you just keep putting work and effort into it, you should definitely be able to find success.
I think newbies should try anything they want as when are you new you need to fall and then comeback strong yourselves as it will really help them to grow as a person.
Hey James, that’s just it brother. You don’t actually fail till you fail yourself. The more you fail the closer you get to success…..
Really great post! Information help me in starting my own business. Thanks for sharing them. In my opinion WordPress and Joomla is a great choice. Thanks!
Hi Richard I’ve never used joomla, but I hear it works really well. I’d love to hear more about the features of Joomla.
There is so many details available, but most people don’t know how to access them. This is a great post to break down what to start thinking about, and to make better decision as you go along. it is important to make a good start, and this post is a great help in doing that.
Thanks, Larry.
I aim to please. It is my hope that folks that visit this blog understand that it has been written from personal experiences over the span of 9 years.
I can especially relate to the part about branding, and taking the time (and money) to create something unique and memorable. A lot of folks don’t want to spend much money on their logo, but think of it this way. It’s a one time fee. You pay once, and get to use it on dozens of mediums for as long as your brand is around. This makes it one of the best investments around if you ask me.
Hey Justin, as the saying goes…
You have to spend money to make money…
#truth!
Good article for a beginners . I don’t quit thing that we need $495 for creating a normal website with WordPress . You can do that in a range of even 100$ -200$ . Overall this article makes us aware about going forward with our website using our brand name will maximize our profit.
Hi Noor,
The Fact is you need thousands of dollars to operate a *real business. Between advertising cost, outsourcing cost and your every day oops i made a mistake cost….
The people who actually believe that they can get started in an online business with next to no money and experience… Are already fooling themselves…
Yes it’s true you can start a business on a shoe string budget.. Isn’t time and money the same thing?
If you plan on doing your best to keep cost down and actually profit you better be prepared to spend a kings ransom in time.
I am talking 30 to 40 hours a week for little to no profit at first…….
Until you can start spending money you will be working your ass off.
Anyone who tells you differently is lying their ass off………
Right now there is too much competition in all niches whatsoever. Along with that Google is changing its algo every now and then.
Therefore I myself am just focusing on business plans that would bring in the revenue without google being in between. I need to try in the markets where google is not going to interfere with my business strategy with their silly algo updates.
Thanks.
WordPress has been the best platform for the bloggers to start with. and that too for niche blogs, it would be really useful to rank and make it fresh with designs.
This is so true. These will really help me in starting niche business. Iam newbie I should try anything. But . There is too much competition in all niches.
I love WordPress, it’s a great platform
Great post Larry!
I think what it comes down to with a niche site is keeping a consistent focus and tone of voice. In terms of look and feel you can get great looking WordPress templates these days for under $50 so price shouldn’t be much of an object.

I would probably go with WordPress to test out a niche business as it will be relatively cheaper as the web design costs for WordPress would be less compared to others in my opinion. Also it is simple to get started with WP so my choice would be WordPress!

Well Larry, every business niche has its own core components, and getting an experience eye in the form of a business consultant can help you identify that for you, so that you can hit the ground running. This is especially very helpful for newcomers who are trying to setup a new business. I used Scarlet Consultants if anyone here ever needs a reference please do let me know management consulting uae.
Thats true when you have choosen your niche you have to be focus on it and be specific by not having focusing on general things.whats the thing which makes you making money online is to have solid vision and focus.
